End of Everything is a sort of a concept project. Composer Tomorrow's Man created a soundbed which he's challenged me to build a short film around; soundtrack then movie instead of movie then soundtrack. To that end I've written an outline and am mostly done with a first draft of the screenplay. As the piece itself is six minutes long, pre-production is fairly quick. So what is it about?
Well, in short, it's a Christian film being written by an agnostic. A man accidentally kills the daughter of God, and as a result, the world begins to unravel until at the end he is confronted by God and is made aware of the nature of his crime. I'd tell you more about it, but this site is public, so for all three people who want the surprise I can't give you the whole story here. If you're interested in working on it, though, you can ask me to tell you more about it.
I need:
- An assistant. (I've had a close friend help me out with this before; it's pretty much a free-for-all, catch-all sort of thing. If you're good at a lot of stuff and want some variety, this would be a good fit for you. She had a lot of fun doing it.)
- A line producer (aids in finding locations and props).
- A casting assistant.
- A cinematographer/cameraperson. (If you can't operate a camera, but have experience with lighting and photography, you'd be very useful. I've always been able to tell people what I want, but damned if I can actually do it myself.)
- A sound editor/technician.
- A makeup artist.
I've generally been regarded as easy to work with (well, under, sort of) and I do tend to be pretty easygoing. I'm used to doing things the way I learned them, which is admittedly somewhat removed from the very traditional way things are done. If you choose to work on this project, I won't be able to pay you, but you'll receive a special copy of the film on DVD when it's completed (I splashed out on the last film and compiled a lot of special features for it, like outtakes, deleted scenes, and an isolated score).
But it's an experiment - not just an experimental film. I'm still learning my craft and chances are if you're reading this, you are too. So if you're looking for a totally professional production, you may want to look elsewhere. But if you're looking to get your feet wet on a fairly short production, this might be for you.
I can't link you to the MP3 for the soundtrack itself on this page, but please contact me directly if you want to hear it, as I found it pretty inspiring and certainly wouldn't be trying to make a film around it if I didn't think it could work.
The contact page on this site has a web form; if you want to contact me directly, I'm on AIM at DTheSleepless, and you can e-mail me at d@thesleepless.net.
Thank you for your interest and for reading my ridiculously verbose diatribe. :) |
